DYSART AND ITS ORIGIN

Considering the rockiness of the area name Dysart which means "desert"  is appropriately named because of its isolated position.  The Ordinance Survey name book 1830's describes the area Diseart - A desert or wilderness. Today the evidence of rock enhances the village.  Its stone walls and rolling hills are spectacular.  The ancient graveyard has evidence of pre-famine burial.  The Co Roscommon area is rich in evidence of times gone by.  Its Abbey, Norman Castle and numerous other buildings and forts will interest any one with a passion for history.
