We have a natural habitat home to many wild animals and birds on our land. To complete the walk at one's leisure could take up to two hours.
Leaving the cottage the walk is directly through all our land at Milltown, Dysart and into a natural habitat Folio 7867 in Taughmaconnell. This thick undergrowth of vegetation, habitat is used for winter grazing for cows and sheep grazing in the summer months.
The sound of many birds and sight of rabbits and hares is a delight to watch. These are just some of the many birds we have seen while herding the stock:
Green Finch
Chaffinch
Heron
Seagull
Wagtail
Rook
Crow
Robin
Jackdaw
Swallow
Magpie
Pheasant
Thrush
Wren
House Martin
Hawk
Cuckoo
Blackbird
Owl
Wild Geese
Visitors to our cottage are welcome to take this walk and enjoy the natural landscape untouched for hundreds of years. The natural stone, wild trees and thick undergrowth leave this area difficult to walk but very interesting.
The effect of the animals grazing on the vegetation and wildlife appears to be positive and it is a natural healthy combination where all are undisturbed.
The hill and hollows in this land are covered in natural herbs and insects. The hard surface of rich limestone has evolved over thousands of years and small patches of earthly ground were developed by farmers by removing the surface rock manually. This area the farmer would use to sow vegetables for his family.
It is indeed a reminder of yester-years and how man had to work for basic survival for himself and his family. There is a man-made road through some of this area and would help walkers find their way back to the open field.
Some of the hedgerow species to be founding the land are Whitethorn, Blackthorn, Hazel, Holly, Gorse, Beech, Dog Raised, Briars, Blackberry, Guilder Rose, Elder,Woodbine and Snowberry. There are thousands of insects, butterflies and wild animals to see.
An ideal place to relax and watch nature take it course.
